With a lot of projects in the pipeline, I want to start doing an analysis on why I close the door on certain projects. Today’s focus is going to be KnockKnockJokesForKids.com
Background
My idea for KnockKnockJokesForKids came from Build the Keyword, which focuses on keywords with minimal search competition but decent traffic. I thought it was a great idea, and knocked out a decent rough draft with AI in a week or so. I used AI to build out all of the jokes, and Replit to launch.
Marketing strategy
My marketing strategy was simple: create a clean, easy-to-navigate site with categorized jokes that would rank well in search engines. I planned to:
- Optimize each page for specific keywords like “knock knock jokes about animals for kids”
- Create category pages to improve site structure and user experience
- Launch on Product Hunt to get initial traffic (see my launch experience in Product Hunt Launch Day)
- Set up basic analytics to track which jokes and categories performed best

Results
After launching the site, the results were disappointing. I experienced the typical Product Hunt traffic spike, but it quickly declined to almost nothing. The SEO performance I had hoped for never materialized in any meaningful way, and the different categories didn’t get me any pSEO.
Additionally, with the lack of a viable business model, it didn’t make sense to go ahead with another year here. There are too many other projects I’ve got my eyes on.
Conclusion
Overall, it was a great experience into building with AI. It showed that ranking difficulty and traffic isn’t everything. I could have worked harder getting backlinks, but I’m happy with what I gained from it. Onto the next project!
