Bidirectional Links
Bidirectional links are connections that work both ways - when you link from page A to page B, page B automatically shows that it’s linked from page A. This is different from traditional web hyperlinks, which only work in one direction. Popularized in my mind by Roam Research, several systems took this idea and ran with it.
Why Bidirectional Links Matter
- Discovery: They help you discover connections you might not have noticed
- Context: They provide additional context about how information is related
- Navigation: They make it easier to explore related concepts
The concept of bidirectional links is central to the digital-garden-concept and modern note-taking-systems. They help transform a collection of notes into an interconnected knowledge network.
Bidirectional links are often implemented using wiki-style double bracket syntax.
